THE BLACK AMERICAN OATH

I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend Black America against all enemies domestic and foreign; that I will fiercely and fearlessly safeguard Black life, liberty and self-determination. I pledge that my struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers; against false prophets and charlatans; against wicked rulers and powers; against authorities and systems of racial and gender oppression; and against false doctrine and law. I am grateful that enslaved and free persons of African descent built the United States with their blood, sweat, tears, hope and ingenuity; I am thankful that the ancestors fought, sacrificed and planted mustard seeds into future generations of African-Americans to contest and defeat the evils of black codes, sharecropping and racial segregation, and while doing so eternally served as American’s moral compass. I pledge to protect the human rights of Black Americans; I vow to fight against systemic and structural racism and it’s vestiges; and I pledge to fight against an unjust criminal justice system, mass incarceration, deadly police violence and violent white extremist vigilantism. I swear that I will resolutely and boldly defend the principles of freedom, equality, justice, security, and humanity for which African-American patriots sacrificed their lives, liberties and longings since 1619: So Shall It Be!
